Here is an explanation of this weekly feature. This entry lists the best and worst for the past 30 days of the 2016 regular season, through games of Sunday, June 19.

Comments of the week: The top five starters by ERA in the American League over the past 30 days are Michael Fulmer, CC Sabathia, Doug Fister, Steven Wright, and Matt Shoemaker. Or, going into the season, that’s AA pitcher, coming off a 4.44 ERA and alcohol rehab, 4.19 ERA last year, 31 year old with 107 major league innings, and 9.15 ERA in April and a demotion to the minors in May, respectively. I don’t think there’s been a less likely quintet this year.
